Hardware Setup

Hardware recommendations

TinySA Ultra

I recommend getting the TinySA Ultra+ from the manufacturer recommended distributor. There are counterfeits on Amazon that may not have the full capability.

Test and calibrate the device before anything else.

Use the included cord with your TinySA Ultra+ is to connect your calibration port to your RF port.

Connect the included cable to both antenna ports before running the self test.

Turn the device on, tap the screen, and go to Config->Self Test.

Tap on the screen, then click "Config".
Click "Self Test".
This will take a few minutes.
Once it is complete, tap the screen to continue.
Tap the screen to open the menu, then click "Config".
Click "Level Cal".
Click "CALIBRATE 100kHz to 7.370GHz".
Click "CALIBRATE".
This will take a few minutes.
Once the calibration is complete, tap the screen. You can turn off the device now.

Install Firmware

To update the firmware I recommend STM32CubeProg. You will need to verify an email address in order to download the software, but you can use something like Guerillamail to prevent your email from being added to a list.

Can be used to flash firmware to your device.
Can be used for temporary email addresses that can receive email. Excellent for downloading free e-books without adding your email to a list.

After installing and opening STM32CubeProg, take your TinySA Ultra+ and hold down the button while turning on the power switch. If the screen remains black, then your device is ready to updated from the USB-C cord.

The power switch is currently in the on position. Hold down the button while turning it on to active firmware update mode. If the screen remains black then it is ready.

Download the latest version of the firmware from the TinySA website. Download the .hex version of the file.

Download the file that ends in ".hex".

Start up STM32CubeProg and select USB as the option in the dropdown next to "Connect".

Click the dropdown that says "UART" by default.
Select "USB" in the list.

Refresh the list of available devices.

Click the refresh button on the second dropdown.
It should automatically select "USB1".

Connect to the device, click the "Upload" button on the left side of the window, select your .hex file you downloaded using the "Browse" button, and then click "Start Programming" to update the firmware.

Click "Connect", "Upload", "Browse", "Start Programming".

When the programming finishes, you can disconnect and power off your TinySA Ultra.

I recommend running the self test and level calibration again after the firmware update.

Install into Vigilante Engineering case.

Insert into case, antenna side first.
Push it all the way in. (That's what she said)
Screw in the top of the case.
Place the stylus in the holder.
Attach the antenna port protector and antenna.
Your hardware is now setup.
