Installing Ubuntu Desktop

GNU GRUB may come up, if it does select the first option.

Once you get this creen, you can safely enter in your second USB stick if you are trying to install a live USB instead of installing directly onto a computer.

If you want to try Ubuntu before installing, you can select "Try Ubuntu" here. Otherwise, click "Install Ubuntu".

Next select your keyboard layout.

If you are on a laptop, you may get a wifi setup screen.

On this screen, I recommend "Normal installation", "Download updates while installing Ubuntu", and "Install Third Party Software."

Use the default "Erase disk and install Ubuntu" option, and click "Install Now".

Verify that you are really sure you want to wipe the hard drive you are about to install to here, this cannot be undone.

If you have multiple hard drives, or you have USB drives attached, you will be asked to choose which hard drive here before the popup.

Again, verify that you are really sure you want to wipe the hard drive you are about to install to here, this cannot be undone.

Select your time zone, then continue.

Enter in your username and computer name here. I recommend using an alias and not your real name. Use "Theophilus" if you can't think of anything.

The install will take some time, make certain that the computer will not be disturbed while installing before walking away.

Once the system is done installing, you will be asked to restart.

Depending on the BIOS, you may be asked to remove the installation medium (in other words the USB stick containing the installer) and then press enter.

After rebooting into your new install, you will see your user selection screen. You are now in your fresh install of Ubuntu!
